wish i were a goat

Lucy and Bryan came up to NH to hike yesterday and i tagged along. they took it easy on the hiking newbie, but i got to cross off my first 4,000 footer!

we met in concord, nh, grabbed some goodies and then headed up to the white mountain area, after a side track of trying to find the road we found the Mount Jefferson Caps Ridge Trail on Jefferson Notch Road. Mount Jefferson is the third highest mountain in the state (5,712 ft), but the trail we took started at a higher elevation but we climbed over a 1,000 ft per mile. the start of the trail was a bit muddy and slick with the rain from the past couple days. the trail then had skinny singly sections w/ little pine trees on both sides that felt like we were on an expedition a la Lewis and Clark, the top portion with the rocks portion took a lot of scrambling and trying to find footing (sliced my hand up a bit coming down the rocks are sharp!)

cheese and bread is amazingggg on a hike. Lucy also sent me a hilariously thorough list of things i would need, such as 3 L of water, something I have never thought about packing. haha, well, i managed to drink half of that water w/ some help from her.

sunset on the way down the mountain. it was definitely foggy at the top, but it wasn't too cold or too windy. perfect hiking weather. with lots of breaks and food inhaling we took about 5 hours. got my first 4,000 footer and saw the white mountains (absolutely breathtaking, even the drive up).

tmrw is the first day of orientation for internship! it's finally about to start, eep!
