tagged along on a trip to manchester (nh) today as martha, one of the interns, needed to get a new phone and the closest t-mobile store was in the mall of new hampshire. which is not saying much. haha. the mall does have macy's, jcpenny, forever 21 and multiple other stores, it's still pretty tiny. it takes about an hour and 30 minutes to get there so it's a pretty long trip, in my opinion, for a mall.
but manchester is the largest city in new hampshire and the largest city of northern New England (NH, VT, ME). kiplinger listed manchester, nh as the second most tax friendly city in the US. as of the 2010 census it had a population of 109,565 (in comparison, the unincorporated community of ellicott city has a population of 65,834). so to the rest of nh, manchester is huge, but in the big picture, pretty tiny city. but it has a mall. haha. not that i was missing any mall action. haven't even stepped inside the target in keene yet.
after getting her new phone we wanted some ethnic food and since we were in a city, it was a heck of a lot easier to find options.
el rincon had the highest reviews on yelp for mexican and all the reviews were really positive about the homemade foods (and hot sauce!). the little place (seating for maybe 20) was really cute and located right across the street from the verizon wireless arena. i think it's run by the one lady who served and made our food.
we split some fresh made guacamole and i wanted to try something new and got the gorditas. two stuffed with nopal (cactus) con queso and one with poblano pepper con queso. they kind of reminded me of a less greasy/fried pupusa. gordita is a mexican dish made of nixtamalized corn flour and stuffed with cheese, meat or other fillings. we got the salsa on the side with them as well as some salsa verde. the salsa rojo was delicious. nice and smoky. i liked the gorditas. not sure i could really taste the cactus, but i liked the dish! song got the torta mexicana with milanesa and the bread for her sandwich looked amazing!
just b/c it was such odd wording, when martha was getting gas, i noticed the sign by the pump. it was the phrasing of "discharge your static electricity before pumping." i think if i just heard that phrase i would have no clue what that referred to. haha.
happy weekend! it's daylight savings tmrw and we're supposed to get a little snow tonight i believe!
