bahstun

finally get to cross off boston from my list of places to see! martha, song and i headed down to boston on saturday and stayed with a friend of song's who lives in brighton, funny to be in a multicultural city (asians! more asians! thai restaurants on every corner! chipotle! people with teeth!) haha. the awesome thing is, boston is only about 2 hours from keene :)
we got in around 11 and headed for quincy market and fanueil hall. finally got indian!!! the indian place inside quincy market is actually on point (or maybe i was just so desperate for indian? but no really, it was quite good for being inside a touristy place) and they make the naan to order so it's piping hot and soft and delicious and warm and yummy, and can i go back and have more? fanueil hall was fun, there were lots of boston stores around the area. how come boston has lobster toys everywhere? i think lobster, i think maine.

the rest of the day we spent bar hopping (man, it hurts to buy drinks in the city plus no happy hour- we went to henneseys and whiskeys). then we grabbed dinner with song's friend at dillon's (i got their mushroom sandwich, which was good!). we rocked the old lady life and headed for bed early...

which of course means i still woke up early. i walked around brighton and got rained on so i ducked into treats on washington.
i grabbed a warm, freshly baked lemon poppyseed biscuit (yum, there seems to be a "warm" theme going on) and then grabbed cheddar jalapeno ones for the girls on my way back. the biscuits weren't warm by the time the girls woke up, but i think they would be amazing freshly baked. one of the co-owners is from baltimore! they finally woke up and we headed out again for downtown.
in case anyone else is a morning person, don't hit up newbury street for actual shopping until after 12 on a sunday. nothing is open :)
just in case you thought the ethnic food tour ended ;) we went to pho basil on mass ave where we were happy to see lots of other asians eating there. i got the panang curry lunch special (6.95) with the tofu. it was good, wish it had been spicier but it is the coconut-based one so can't get everything. song thought the pho was too sweet.
we did some more exploring and then headed up to the top of the prudential building b/c it was getting cold and windy. tables had a wait at 4ish but you can stand at the bar and order. we got the mango mojitos (excellent!) and one of their specialty drinks- biscotti pumpkin martini or something (bartendar david made it up, so try to get it made by him). i also ordered the warm chocolate cake, which was good, but not sure i needed it for $10. and the ravens won!

dinner was at globe bar and cafe where i shared the mac & cheese with martha and then got the peanut butter shutter. their sweet potato fries are good and the peanut butter shutter (pretty much a peanut butter pie with a chocolate crust) was excellent.

overall, i would be dirt broke if i was doing my internship in boston, but what a cool city! hopefully next time i can walk the freedom trail and get to mike's pastry!
