ice and snow festival

eagle with Native American
happy saturday! did everyone watch the opening ceremonies last night? i nodded off to the tail-end (missing all the lighted sports figures) but hopefully i get to watch some events this month!

it's the keene ice and snow festival today. which, based on my questioning keene townies, isn't really all that much (esp in comparison to pumpkin fest).

went to check it out, took about 10 minutes to look at the sculptures (they also had cotton candy and hot chocolate for sale). not too many people wandering around but i guess it's a new festival. but when you have winter for so long i guess you have to make the most of it.

but it was pretty cool to watch the artists carve the blocks of ice. looked like using a saw was pretty deadly (see wizard w/ bird, bird wasn't there when we walked by again). and on the native american with the eagle the bear in the foreground lost his left ear.

one of the corporate sponsors (the founder lives in keene and basically funds everything)

this is the wizard and bird we saw. song and i thought he was going to build a staff with the bird on top (where his saw is aimed) but when we walked by again later there was no more bird! whoops.
